Text-only copy of Christmas poem
This card took a long time and was hard work. I usually have a rough idea of a picture and at least a few lines before I start the poem. I had none this year. Just 'the least we forgot' because of a desire for some Kipling refence. After weeks of mulling I sat down and ground out a draft, which you can see by clicking
original rough draft . Be warned, rough means rough. I cannot do a text only version and can now make little sense of it.
After the pencil draft I wrote it out on my computer and fiddled with it.
The picture was much harder. I drew the robin on the spade, sketched lots of symbolic images to go with it and the poem, and ended up with a multi layer piece, included 3 of the new drawings for the Wayne Jacobs Little Red Book. I ended up going 'Ahhhhhrrrrgggggg!, getting rid of the lot and drawing a poppy to match the spade. There is symbolism in them, but I have forgotton what it was. Glyn 8.3.2005
