Old bradwan news
This page is a web scrapbook of stories that are out of date for the page they were written for, but which still have some interest (for me that is, I can never find stuff I have done). It mostly comes from the bradwan homepage.>

Just discovered programme of probably the last thing Glyn Watkins did at the Priestley Centre Two Pongo Plays
A Welshman with a Finnish mother celebrated Englishness and a Palestinian saint, at a German church, in Bradford. At the Delius Centre (aka the German Church) 8 pm. on the 22nd April, St George's eve. An artistic triumph. Audience universal in their praise.
I was the featured artist at the Great British Redhead Festival 2010 in Morley 10th April. I am did a talk/show in the Town Hall, and sold Ed Balls two of my books. There was a really good photo on faceback of the two us, but I seem to be the only person that can still see it, so will not do a link until I am sure other folk can.

forgotten greeting cards. 25th Feb. 2010. At the
Delius Centre AKA the German Church

This show, presented by Glyn Watkins, with virtuoso citern player Dick Preston; with support from Bradford Council; went very well indeed. Thanks to all that helped, especially freelance programmer, and ex-pupil of mine, Sam Collier.

The news is that the biggest addition to the National Grid for a generation (the Grid is the electricity supply network, created in the 30's, unsung, and the single most important thing built in Britain in the 20th Century).
If there is not money spent on renewing and extending the Grid more and more blackouts will happen in Britain; as happened this winter. I have spent decades creating art and poetry about pylons. I think I need to pull my finger out and do more, including on this site.

A show by Glyn Watkins and Dave Pendleton about the city of Bradford, Bradford City, the F.A. Cup and the War To End Wars.
Photos of City Heroes
The F.A. Cup was the guest star, a Cup made by a Bradford firm for the 1911 Cup final, and won in 1911 by Bradford City, the winning goal scored by a man who later won the MM in WWI, before he was killed in action. We talked about a varied selection of City players. At the end I read a piece by J.B.Priestley that ends 'The men who were boys when I was a boy are dead.' We then had silence and 3 slides for each player. Football kit and name. Army uniform and regiment. Grave or memorial and date and place of death. Went to black. The Last Post played from the back of the Cathedral. Not a dry eye in in the place. I was choking up, and I knew what was coming!
The Telegraph & Argus reported an audience of 200.

My school friend Viv Cooper's funeral was on the 24th October 2009. He had been ill with cancer. A decent man who made a real difference.

Skipton
Event success
A celebration of Rudyard Kipling, curry and Yorkshire, held at the Cross Keys, Skipton, on Monday, has been hailed a Success. Showman and poet Glyn Watkins said: "I have done Kipling shows in towns across the country and Skipton has to be one of the best to work in. I got a lovely audience, and a lot of that is down to the article the Herald did. I enjoyed the night and I would love to do more shows here." Glyn performed poems, mixed with the story of Kipling's life, including a lot about Kipling's family links to Skipton. Kipling's grandparents, Joseph and Frances, are buried in the old graveyard on Raikes Road.
