Intent

The Ilkley Literary Festival is successful, has been going for decades, and as is a genuine testament to hard work, and is an event worthy of praise.

On the other hand it is, basically, a celebrity writers festival, uses only a limited number of venues in Ilkley; and runs a 'fringe' that it vets and controls, but does not pay anything for, and which does not allow artists and promoters to charge entry.

So there is nothing to stop people who can organise an event from doing so.

I have been contacted by hot band The bacchae asking if they could be in my fringe!  They are fixing a venue, and I have a Ilkley Festival Uncut Fringe logo as a result.

Do something for yourself

Sort a show.  Find a venue (I can make suggestions) and book it (the basic Edinburgh Fringe principle).  If you tell me about it you can use the logo, and I will include the show in my publicity.  All I ask is that you try and avoid clashes with other Uncut Fringe events, and that you help publicise those other events.  I am not looking to make masses of unpaid work for myself, create a new festival, or direct anything but myself; but I enjoy helping people, and if other events link to mine it helps all of us.  I always do flyers and posters for my own shows, and am getting good at getting shows listed.

I can offer help and advice.

There is less than no money in this fringe! But we can help each other; share costs for posters &c, or simply use the logo on our own stuff.  Also, as you will be producing your own shows, you can choose to charge in, have a whip round, collect or do it all for free.

'Any event' means any event.  I would love to have a bracken bashing day, and would love to organise a Ford Zodiac cavalcade to celebrate Peter Tinniswood's Uncle Mort.

Please . if you want to know more or ask questions.
